Day 10: 10 organizations empowering women in STEM across Africa
Africa is brimming with untapped potential in STEM. Numerous organizations are working tirelessly to break down barriers and empower women to thrive in these crucial fields. From mentorship programs to educational initiatives and networking opportunities, these groups are fostering a new generation of female STEM leaders across the continent. Here are 10 organizations making a significant difference:

1. African Women in Mathematics Association (AWMA): AWMA promotes the participation of women in all areas of mathematics across Africa. They organize conferences, workshops, and mentorship programs to support women mathematicians at all stages of their careers.
2. Association for Women in Science (AWIS) – African Chapters: While AWIS is a global organization, they have chapters and affiliates across Africa dedicated to advancing women in STEM. These chapters often focus on local needs and challenges, providing networking, mentorship, and career development opportunities.
3. Technovation Africa: This organization empowers girls and women to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders through its global tech education programs. They provide mentorship, training, and resources to help women develop mobile apps and launch their own businesses.
4. The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation: while not exclusively for women, this prestigious prize recognizes and supports outstanding African engineers, many of whom are women. It provides funding, mentorship, and business training to help innovators bring their engineering solutions to market.
5. STEMi Makers Africa: this initiative focuses on equipping young girls and women with STEM skills through hands-on workshops, coding boot camps, and maker spaces. They aim to inspire and empower the next generation of female innovators and problem solvers.
6. The Dorothy Jemison Foundation: founded by Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel to space, this foundation supports STEM education and initiatives, particularly for underrepresented youth, including girls in Africa.
7. African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS): AIMS is a pan-African network of centers of excellence for postgraduate training, research, and public engagement in mathematical sciences.
8. She Code Africa: this organization provides training, mentorship, and resources to help young women across Africa pursue careers in technology. They offer coding boot camps, workshops, and networking events to build skills and connect women with opportunities in the tech industry.
9- Women in Tech Africa: this group focuses on empowering women in the tech industry through networking, mentorship, and training programs. They aim to create a supportive community for women in tech and promote their leadership and advancement.
10. Regional Hubs and University Initiatives: Many universities and regional hubs across Africa are also developing initiatives to support women in STEM. These programs often include scholarships, mentorship programs, and research opportunities specifically designed for female students.
