Addressing Cameroonian women underrepresentation in STEM
Women in Cameroon are vastly underrepresented in STEM fields, with only 25% of the STEM workforce being women (UNESCO). Globally, women occupy just 15% of leadership positions in STEM (McKinsey), and in Cameroon, 50% of girls drop out of STEM studies before age 15 (World Bank). At LES GO SCIENCENT, we’re dedicated to bridging this gap and empowering women to thrive in STEM. Our mentorship program pairs women with experienced professionals for guidance. Through educational webinars and capacity-building workshops, we provide the latest knowledge and skills. We share opportunities and offer application guidance to access scholarships, internships, and jobs. Our school outreach programs ignite young girls’ interest in STEM, while conferences and networking events foster connections and collaboration. Additionally, our STEM careers counseling offers personalized support to help women set and achieve their career goals. By addressing these barriers, LES GO SCIENCENT is creating a new generation of skilled women leaders in STEM, driving innovation and societal growth. Together, we are building a more inclusive STEM community in Cameroon.

I am Mrs. Aude Karelle Lekaboth, born on November 18, 1992, in Maroua, northern Cameroon. The youngest of four, I lost my father in 1997. Despite hardships, my mother always encouraged us to excel in school for a brighter future. I consistently achieved top grades, leading me to Italy in 2011 to pursue university studies. In 2018, I earned a master’s degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from Bologna.
After graduating in 2018, I worked as a technical support engineer for ExxonMobil in Prague until 2022, then transitioned to a service coordinator role at SAP. This enriching Western experience ends in April 2023. I’ve decided to return to Cameroon to share my knowledge and learn from my homeland. This led me to create LES GO SCIENCENT, to inspire young girls and women to pursue STEM careers. Women have a vital role in our development. It’s not just for men; we all can achieve our dreams.
I have a certification in Leadership with JOHN MAXWELL LEADERSHIP, I am a chaplain with CONACCE CHAPLAINS INTERNATIONAL and I have been selected as New Leader for Tomorrow 2022 with the Swizz organization CRANS MONTANA. With all these, I can’t keep calm – I’ll be part of change in my country and in Africa.
